Education & Training
Dr. Brandon Baartman is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. He was born and raised in Rochester, MN. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN for his undergraduate degree and went on to graduate from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. It was during medical school that Dr. Baartman realized his passion for eye care and the true impact of sight-saving surgery around the world through his travels to Honduras, Ghana, and the northernmost region of the Indian Himalayas.
SKILLS & EXPERTISE
Dr. Baartman completed his Ophthalmology training at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland OH. While there, he served as the Chief Resident in Ophthalmology during his last year and was recognized by the Cleveland Clinic with an Excellence in Teaching award. He joined Vance Thompson Vision in July 2017 for a one-year advanced anterior segment fellowship with Dr. Thompson, Dr. Tendler, and Dr. Berdahl.
He has participated in numerous clinical trials, published a number of peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has been awarded for his research presentations on a variety of topics in the field of Ophthalmology. After fellowship, Dr. Baartman elected to stay on as an associate with Vance Thompson Vision, and is currently the lead surgeon at the Vance Thompson Vision office in Omaha, Nebraska. He has a passion for improving the quality of eye care in the community he serves through his commitments to education, research, technology, and improving the patient experience.
Hobbies & Personal Interests
Outside of work, Brandon enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife Nicole and their daughter Sophia. He also enjoys golfing, tennis, biking as well as sports in the colder months like ice hockey and skiing.
